Mildred's Birthday

Sometimes I just have to play with my stamps and if things work great if not they get filed! This one worked.....

To make this card I started by ripping a page from a book and stamping Mildred onto it, then using acrylic paints I coloured her in - making sure I painted over the lines.

Whilst Mildred was drying, I  found some patterned papers to make a background distressed around the edge, stamped fake stitches, where the two papers met I attached some lace around it. Next I lightly distressed a very small doily for the bottom corner and die cut and embossed some flowers for the top right. For the brad I found a 1 inch brad sanded it lightly and stamped "Birthday Wishes 2U" into the centre using Stazon.

Once Mildred was dry I stamped Mildred again this time using Stazon and added some flowers to her bodice from the On the Branch stamp set. I tore around all the edges of the page from the book,  then stamped the corner cog stamp from Large Cog Corner and finally I distressed around the edge.

To finish of the card I attached the doily to the bottom left corner of the patterned papers, then added Mildred at an angle, across the bottom of the card I added some ribbon and a bow (I made a slit in the doily to push the ribbon through). In the top right of the patterned papers I added the die cut flowers using the large brad. In the corners of the page from a book I added a brad and a bead cap. This was then added to an A5 base card which had been distressed around the edges. finally I added some buttons and hatpins.

Fancy Bird

This is another really girly card for me! I can't believe how much I enjoyed making it, sticking all the sequins on was sooooooo relaxing!!!!!

For this card I started by cutting a piece of white card 2cm smaller than an A5 card. Next I stamped Baby Bird about two thirds of the way up the piece of card and the small tail. Next I added added branches and flowers using On the Branch. I stamped these onto scrap paper first to get a faded image. I then tore a quarter of a circle out of a sticky note and masked of a sun shape in the top right hand corner. I then inked this in yellow. Next removed the mask and lightly blended the sun into the sky. I then lightly distressed the rest of the sky using pale blue. Once I was happy I stamped "Birthday Wishes 2U" from Postage Sentiments masked it off then stamped the postage mark. Around the edge I stamped the long stem from Poppy Cogs. To finish this off I distress around the edge in pink and coloured in the flowers and leaves using watered down distress inks.

Next I mounted this piece of card onto a piece of Kraft card cut 1cm larger. On the Kraft card around the edge I drew a wiggly line in black. I then added a brad and a bead cap to each of the corners. Around the bottom I added a big pink ribbon and tied a bow.

Next I stamped the flower from On the Branch around the edge of an A5 dusky pink card and distressed it in pink. I then coloured the flowers in using watered down distress ink. I mounted the stamped card onto this.

To finish off this card I added some hat pins to the ribbon and secured it to the card. Then added pink sequins to each of the cogs on Baby Birds wing and tail using Glossy Accents. Finally I added Glossy Accents to all the leaves and flowers and to the "Birthday Wishes 2U" sentiment.

Fairy Moments

I just love this card, it's sooooo girly and so not my usual style but I love how it turned out it makes me smile every time I look at it, just thinking what that little fairy is up to.

To make this card I took a square scalloped piece of card and stamped (in blue ink) and embossed (using Stardust embossing powder) Fairy Wings in the middle, towards the left side of the card. Next I masked of the wings and stamped On the Branch so that it looked like the fairy was sitting on it. then in the gap between the bottom of the wings and the branch and also at the top between the wings I shaded it in using blue Distress Ink. I then added the flowers and leaves to the branches. Then in each corner I stamped a flower and four leaves. I coloured these in using the same colour Distress Ink that I stamped them in and watered it down. Still with the wings masked, I masked of the flowers in the corners I stamped around the edge using the long stem from Poppy Cogs. In the top right corner I added a rub-on.

Next I stamped Mad Hatter in blue onto white card and cut it out.

To make the background I stamped the On the Branch and flowers onto a small strip of white card. I stamped onto scrap paper first to get a faint image. I then found some pattern paper in my stash for the bottom. I rounded all the corners and distressed around the outside edges of both pieces. I then added both pieces to a dark pink square card and rounded it's corners too and distressed around the edge. Across the middle of the card I added a thick piece of lace. This was then added to a large pale pink card.

To finish off the card I added yellow brads to the centre of the four flowers in the corners of the scalloped card and stuck this onto the card. Next I added Mad Hatter using silicon glue. I then tied a piece of pink ribbon around the lace. Finally I added Glossy Accents to the band and card on the hat and too all the flowers and leaves.

I fancy trying this card again but in Autumn colours next time.....

Father's Day

I know it is a little late but last Sunday we finally got around to celebrating Fathers Days! Here are the cards I made for my Dad and Father in Law.

For this card I used the Build Your Own (BYO) Dragonfly stamp set I love how versatile the BYO sets are they allow you to stamp either the dragonfly or butterfly in any flying position you can think off!

To make this card I started by cutting a background piece of card 1cm smaller than a DL card. I then splodged yellow, green and blue Distress Ink onto my glass cutting mat then spritzed it. Once the ink was really runny I pushed the card into making sure the majority of the card was covered. I then spritzed and repeated for the second card. As you can from the picture above one turned out much darker (bottom) that was the first one I did. I then dried them both using a heat gun.

Once the back ground was dry I stamped the branch from On the Branch along the bottom in brown Distress Ink (I first stamped onto scrap paper after inking so that I got a faded effect!). I then stamped one of the skinny wings from BYO Dragonfly to make the tops of the Bulrushes (again I stamped onto scrap paper first!). Once I was happy with the Bulrushes I distressed around the edge.

I then stamped "With Love On Father's Day" in the bottom right corner using the new sentiments sets from Dimension Stamps (Popular Phases (NC022) and Occasions (NC023)).

Next using brown ink I dragged the edge of my acrylic sheet across the ink pad and pressed in into the three remaining corners of the backing paper to distress/age  the edges even more.  I also added a brad to the three corners.

Once I was happy with the background card I inked up the body of the dragonfly, then decided which way I wanted the dragonfly to face and removed the ink from it's legs, one eye and one antenna (as shown below, the parts removed are shown in green) I find it easier to hold the stamp as if about to stamp it, to remove the ink, so that I can see what it will look like when stamped.

I then added two wings in blue ink to the top of the body so that the dragonfly looked to be side on.

To finish of the card I mounted the stamped card onto some pattered paper and attached string around the top left corner. I then matted this onto a  DL Kraft Craft card that opened at the side. I then added the inside   to the card (I forgot to take a pic!!!!) and secured it using string around the folding edge. Finally I went over the dragonfly with Glossy Accents to make sure he stood out!

I really enjoy working with the Build your own sets as there are no limits to what you can do!
