Deck the Halls

This set (Deck the Halls - Set 2) proved to be a big hit at Ross Papercrafts show up in Nissan last Sunday, people couldn't believe how quickly you can make a fab card.

So here goes this beauty can be made in a matter of minutes.....

I started by cutting up all my card first so in red I cut a 13.5cm by 20cm  and a 12.5cm by 3cm. In white I cut a 12.5cm by 19cm and a 12.5cm by 2.5cm.

That all done I distressed lightly around the edge of the white cut pieces using Scattered Straw (this helps to make the red look red"er"). Across the top of the large white piece of card I stamped Sparkle Flourish in Memento Ladybug and then the four baubles (Christmas Minis Set 2). I then doodled around the edge and added the string between the flourish and each bauble.

Onto the thin strip of white card I stamped Deck the Halls doodled around the edge, mounted this onto the red and added a gold brad to each corner. This was then attached to the large piece of white card, and again this was mounted onto the red card, brads added and then attached to the front of a white A5 card.

So that was quick wasn't it!

Seasons Greetings

It feels so strange to sit and make Christmas cards when we are having such lovely weather and even more so after spending yesterday playing on the beach and today wandering around the Zoo!

Anyway back to the serious stuff - NEW STAMPS!!!!!!!

This card is one of the first cards I made using our NEW Christmas Tree - Seasons Greetings and Sparkle Flourish Stamps and I love it! From start to finish everything just worked and I am so please with the finished card.

I started by stamping the Christmas Tree onto white card in clear ink and adding Silver embossing powder. This was then trimmed down and distressed using Faded Jeans when I was happy I "polished" the embossing using a piece of kitchen roll. Using Faded Jeans and a water brush I then coloured in the star, trunk and open letters (greetings).

Next I cut a 7.5 inch square piece of white card and across it I stamped Sparkle Flourish and embossed them in silver. I did the top 2 rows then the bottom 2 and then finally the middle one so that the ink didn't dry before I put the embossing powder on.This was then distressed and polished as before.

The embossed flourish was then mounted onto the blue piece of card 0.5 inch bigger than the white and a piece of cord added. all of this when then attached to the front of an 8 inch square card.

The Christmas Tree was then mounted onto blue card too with a brad added to each corner and then attached to the front of the card.

Buttons and bits

Well the school holidays are well underway at Crafty Roo HQ and so far Little Lady has gone through more tubes of glue and more rolls of tape than I care to think about! But a few buttons managed to escape the sticky mess and got turned into this little beauty.

To make this card I stamped our new Button Mum saying onto a piece of handmade paper and tore around the edges.

I then cut a 5.5inch square piece of white card and distressed around the edge, onto it, in the two opposite corners I attached two 10cm squares of handmade paper.  Around the edges of the white card and the handmade papers I doodled some stitches. Around the left hand side I attached some ribbon and lace. This was then attached to a 6 inch square kraft card.

The sentiment was added to  the centre of the card and buttons attached around the card to finish off.

For You...

I hope you have all had a lovely Easter break, after so many days of great weather today is a bit of a shock to system!

So here is a card to bring a bit of sunshine to this rather wet morning!

To make this card I started by stamping the detailed Lizzie stamp 3 times onto some pink velum, heat embossed them and cut them out. Next I cut a piece of cream card 2cm smaller (length and width) than an A5 card, on this I positioned the flowers but didn't attached them and then stamped the solid leaf once for the top and bottom flower and twice for the centre flower. Over the top of the leaves I stamped the detailed leaf stamp. Around the edge of the cream card I drew on some stitching. Down the right hand side of the card I attached some wide pink ribbon.

The cream card was then attached to a pink piece of card cut 1cm larger (both length and width). Onto the pink card I had randomly stamped the detailed Lizzie stamp around the edge in a darker pink ink. This was then attached to a A5 base Kraft card.

To finish of the card I die cut two shapes, one in cream just big enough to add the sentiment "For You" and a larger pink one which I stamped the detailed Lizzie stamp onto, this was then attached to the bottom of the ribbon along with some pins. Finally I attached the flowers and added a gem to the centre of each flower, each corner of the cream card and to each side of the sentiment.

Take it slow......

I really love playing with the little critters stamps, they make cool cards really quick!

To make this card I started by stamping Sammy onto a small square piece of white card and coloured him in using a water brush and Distress Inks. Around the edge I used red ink and an acrylic block to create the lines and lightly distressed it in blue. Next I cut a piece of red card 0.5cn larger than the stamped image and a blue piece of card 0.5 cm larger than that.

To create the background I used two sayings from Relax stamp set and stamped "Relax...." in blue and "Take it slow...........!" in red I alternated these across a scrap of white card to the top of the piece of card I added a strip of red card and to the bottom I added a strip of blue. This was then mounted onto a 5.5 inch square piece of white card, which I then mounted onto a red 5.75 inch square. Into the four corners of the text I added a brad. this was then attached to a 6 inch square base card.

To finish of the card I attached Sammy to the red and blue piece of card (I did mine at funny angles) in each corner I added a brad and attached it to the card. Next I added some googley eyes to Sammy and added  Glossy Accents to his shell. Finally I added some red gems.

Sunflowers mean summer!

Sunflowers play a big part of spring/summer for the Crafty Roo family, Little Lady spends hours sowing seeds and  watering them and watching them grow. We plant far more than would ever be needed for our little garden, but at least it gives us "spares". Then when the flowers open they become squirrel food right through the autumn/winter and if any are left in the spring we feed them to hedgehogs.

This year we are trying a new variety called "Giant Russian" the only reason we HAD to have these was because on the front of the packet the plant was taller than a man - and of course to a 3 nearly 4 year old that's all that matters, not the part that said hard to grow!

Anyway, enough waffling's, here's a lovely summer card......

To make this card I cut two small squares of white card and stamped the detailed Sunny Doodles stamp in the center, coloured it in using Distress Inks and a waterbrush, stamped "With Love" around the edges, distressed around the edges,  then added UTEE randomly around the edges.

These squares were then mounted onto Kraft card which had been distressed around the edges. The using a DL Kraft Card for the base card I added a panel of patterned paper which was 1cm smaller than the DL card and attached the two squares.

To finish of the card I added large buttons to the center of each flower and a piece of knotted string, then around the the center of the card I wrapped some string and tied it.

Mildred's Birthday

Sometimes I just have to play with my stamps and if things work great if not they get filed! This one worked.....

To make this card I started by ripping a page from a book and stamping Mildred onto it, then using acrylic paints I coloured her in - making sure I painted over the lines.

Whilst Mildred was drying, I  found some patterned papers to make a background distressed around the edge, stamped fake stitches, where the two papers met I attached some lace around it. Next I lightly distressed a very small doily for the bottom corner and die cut and embossed some flowers for the top right. For the brad I found a 1 inch brad sanded it lightly and stamped "Birthday Wishes 2U" into the centre using Stazon.

Once Mildred was dry I stamped Mildred again this time using Stazon and added some flowers to her bodice from the On the Branch stamp set. I tore around all the edges of the page from the book,  then stamped the corner cog stamp from Large Cog Corner and finally I distressed around the edge.

To finish of the card I attached the doily to the bottom left corner of the patterned papers, then added Mildred at an angle, across the bottom of the card I added some ribbon and a bow (I made a slit in the doily to push the ribbon through). In the top right of the patterned papers I added the die cut flowers using the large brad. In the corners of the page from a book I added a brad and a bead cap. This was then added to an A5 base card which had been distressed around the edges. finally I added some buttons and hatpins.

Chrissy Caterpillar

I love how simple this card turned out, and if you look closely it is white card, which has NO inky smudges, amazing I know!

To make this card I started by cutting a white piece of card 1cm smaller than a A6 folded card, across the center of the card I stamped three caterpillars. Then I left a gap for the ribbon and stamped "Have a munching crunching good time!". Using Distress Ink and a waterbrush I coloured it in (see I had to use Distress Inks somewhere lol!).

When the caterpillars were dry I attached some red ribbon across the center and added a knot. This was then mounted onto a green card and a then onto a white A6 base card.

To finish off the card I added googly eyes and gems in the corners of the card.

Blooming....

I made this card at Happy Stampers last weekend, it uses our new Flowers Grows stamp set and of course a quote from Dr Seuss!

To make this card is really quick and easy! I started by stamping the smallest sunflower at one side and the largest one at the other and coloured them in using Distress Ink and a water brush. In the top corner I distressed through a punched out circle, then around the edge of the card. Around the edge of the card I inked up the edge of my acrylic block and "stamped" around the edges of the card. This was then matted on to blue card and onto a white base card.

To finish off the card I roughly cut of the quote and backed it onto blue card and attached it to the card.

Spider-tastic day!

Here is a card made using our new little critter stamps, this one is called Sally Spider!

These stamp are great as you can make a card in minutes.....

For this card I started by stamping Sally three times onto an 5 inch square piece of white card, making sure they were stamped in the top two thirds of the piece of card, across the bottom of the card I stamped "Have a" and "Spider-tastic Day!". I added a straight line from each of the Sally's to the top of the card. Just above the text I added a ribbon and in the top two corners I added a brad.

Next I chose three different colours of pearlescent paper and onto each I stamped Sally. Out of the remaining paper I created a background, by adding a strip of each colour to a 6 inch square card. Onto that I attached the stamped image.

Finally I cut out each of the coloured Sallys' bodies and attached them to the card and gave each one two googley eyes.

Born to stand out!

I just love this little card, I made it whilst at Doncaster the other week.

I know the matting and layering is a little crooked and the wording could have done with being matted too but I like it and I am definitely going to play with this idea, so watch this space.......

I started by second generation stamping  Crafty Jack onto a piece of card 2cm smaller than A6 (I inked up Crafty Jack, stamped him onto some scrap paper then stamped him where I wanted him, it gives you a much softer image). next I coloured it in using watered down Distress Inks and a water brush. This was then mounted on to a piece of blue card and then again to an A6 card.

Next I stamped the solid Lizzie stamp onto some spare paper/card, then I added the detail stamp over the top and cut it out. Onto the card I position Lizzie (but didn't stick her down!) and stamped the stem and leaf. Then I stuck Lizzie down with foam tape and added a gem.

Finally, I cut out one of my favourite DR Seuss sayings "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?" and added it to the card.

I think you will be seeing this card a lot as I have a few birthdays coming up which it will be perfect for!

Daisy Dragonfly

This card is one I made on Saturday whilst we were at the Ross Papercraft Show at Doncaster, normally I don't bring many of the cards I make home as I like to give them away.

However, this one......

came home with me!

To make this one all I did was stamp three solid Daisy flowers and gave each one a leaf. Over the top I added the detail stamp and distressed around the edge of  a piece of cream card that is 2cm smaller than an A6 card. In black Ink I then stamped Baby Dragonfly towards the top of the piece of card and across the bottom I stamped "Birthday Wishes". Baby Dragonfly was then then coloured in using a water brush and Distress Inks.

Onto a pale purple piece of card Cut 1cm smaller than an A6 card I stamped Mini cog corners around the edge, matted the Dragonfly onto this. Between the base of the Dragonfly and "Birthday Wishes" I wrapped some string around and tied it in a knot.

To finish off the card I took an A6 blank card and stamped Daisy around the edge this was then distressed and the Dragonfly added to it. Finally I added a gem in each corner.

Time to play

Some days I just need to play with my inks, I don't have any plan I just play and sometimes things just come together.

For this card I raided my bits box and found some small pieces of cream card and stamped the solid Daisy stamp in different colours. (To get the watercolour effect I ink up my stamp then spritz it with water.) Next I added the solid leaf and over stamped it using the detailed leaf stamp and a darker green ink. Then I stamped the detailed Daisy stamp in black.

Around the edges of the small squares I distressed and added some "sketch marks" (I do this by inking up the edge of my acrylic block and stamping it around the edge of the squares.)

The square were then mounted onto a large square piece of card that I could then stamp "Birthday Wishes" around the edge. This was then distressed too. In the four outer corners I attached a brad and a bead cap.

Finally I attached this to a 8 inch square blank card that I had randomly stamped Daisy onto.

To finish off the card I stamped the detailed Daisy onto velum four times, clear embossed it and cut them out, these were attached to the centre of the card and finished off with a button and some twine. I then added a a gem between each of the saying to make it sparkle.

Not bad really for a card that started off with no plan......

Sunny

This card is sooooo quick to make, I think it looks really fresh!

To make this card I started by cutting a piece of white card 2cm smaller on both sides than A5. Then I randomly stamped the solid Sunny shape all over the the piece of card. Next I stamped a solid leaf next to each flower. Finally I stamped the flower and leaf detailed stamp over all of the solid stamped shapes. Around the edge I distressed in green.

Next I cut out a piece of Kraft Card 1cm smaller on both sides, distressed around the edges and attached the stamped piece to this. In each corner I added a copper coloured brad.

Also out of the Kraft card I cut a piece as wide as the Kraft card and then tore along the two long edges so it was about 5cm deep. I then distressed around the edge of this torn piece and stamped a sentiment in the bottom right corner. Across the center I added some cream lace and attached this to the stamped  panel.

To finish the card I distressed around the edges of an A5 blank white card and attached the stamped panel to this. I found a huge button, some pins and attached them to the card, to the center of the button I attached some tied string.

Daisy

This card was made by Sue.

I just love the colours.... and amazingly she has only used two shades of blue to create it (Memento Paris Dusk and Stormy Sky Distress Ink).

Nina Crafts: Owl Tree

When I saw the Owl stamps from Nina Crafts I knew I wanted to have one peeking out of a tree, and luckily on one of my many visits to craft fairs over the years I had bought some wood veneer pieces and I just had to use it.

The outside of the card is just so simple. I trimmed down  a piece of "wood" to fit the front of an 14.5cm card and cut out the "hole" using the Christmas wreath Movers and Shapers from Tim Holtz. I then distressed it.

Next I stamped the saying onto a scarp of card and trimmed it down, distressed it and attached it to the "wood" using brads. I then attached this to the front of a green card which had been distressed. I then lined up the wreath die again and cut through the card.

I then stamped the Feathery Owl onto some patterned paper, cut him out leaving a slight border, distressed him added some colour. Onto a a 13.5cm square piece of cream card I stamped "Happy Birthday" (from Birthdays galore) all over it and distressed around the edge.

To finished of the card I attached the 13.5cm square card into the base card and attached the owl making sure his eyes lined up with the hole.

Nina Crafts: White Owl

For this card I just used the new Leafy Owl Stamp set from Nina Crafts (and the stitching from Sew Creative). I wanted this card to be just brown, cream and green but looking at it again I think the eyes needed to be black!

To make this card I stamped "Have a Hoot!" all over an A5 white base card and distressed it lightly in green.

Next I stamped the Leafy Owl  onto pattern green paper and also onto Kraft Card. I cut out the green owl and coloured in his leafy bits. Out of the Kraft card owl  I cut out his wings, beak, feet and eyes and ears. I stuck these onto a small piece of cream and stamped stitches around the edge and distressed it slightly. This was then mounted onto Kraft Card and stitching added around the edge.

To finish of the card I added a piece of torn green patterned paper across the base card and added some lace and ribbon. The owl was then attached and Card Candi added to the eyes.

Nina Crafts: Book Owl

I have had the new owl stamps from Nina Crafts for weeks, just sat on my crafty desk wanting to play but other things have jumped in front of them on the to do list (How rude! I hear you all cry!).

BUT, I finally got to play and I have had soooooo much fun, so watch this space as there are many more ideas to come.......

This first card I just love he really is a wise old owl!!

To make this card I just used the Leafy Owl stamp set, but it would work with any of the three owls.

I started by stamping the owl into a page of a book in black ink and just coloured in the leaves, branches, eyes, beak and feet. He was then cut out leaving a 1-2mm border and distressed lightly around the edge. I then stuck him onto some green patterned paper and cut him out again leaving a 1-2mm border and lightly distressed around the edge.

Next I cut a 5 inch square piece of kraft card and embossed down the right hand side of the card and distressed it. I then cut a page from a book to fit the 5 inch kraft card and tore down the right hand side and distressed it. I then stuck this to the kraft card.

In each corner I attached a bronze large brad and tied some string around the left hand side. This was then attached to a 14.5 cm square green base card.

To finish of the card I attached the Leafy Owl and stamped "Have a Hoot!" onto a scrap of cream card, trimmed it down, distressed around the edge and mounted it onto green card and attached it to the card.

Stay tuned I have been playing (sorry) making lots...........
